Privacy Policy
Effective date: 1 April 2026 — Last updated: 1 April 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how BuildWorld AI Pty Ltd ("BuildWorld", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use the BuildWorld Copilot add-in for Autodesk Revit (the "App"). By installing and using the App you agree to the practices described in this policy.
Key point: BuildWorld Copilot does not upload your Revit model files (.rvt). Only extracted text data (element names, dimensions, types) and view screenshots are transmitted to provide the AI assistant functionality. No data is sold to third parties.
1. What Data We Collect
When you use BuildWorld Copilot, we collect the following categories of data:
| Data Category | Examples |
|---|---|
| View screenshots | Screenshots of the current Revit viewport, captured when you interact with the AI assistant |
| Model element data | Wall type names, room names, element dimensions, material names, and other text-based properties extracted from the active Revit model |
| Chat messages | Text messages you send to the AI assistant within the App |
| Authentication credentials | Your BuildWorld API key, used to authenticate requests |
| Usage metrics | Message counts and token counts, used for billing and service monitoring |
Data we do NOT collect
- We do not upload or access your Revit model files (.rvt, .rfa, .rte)
- We do not collect your Autodesk account credentials
- We do not collect personal information beyond what is required for your BuildWorld account
- We do not access files on your computer outside of the Revit API
2. How Data Is Collected
Data is collected through the following mechanisms:
- Revit API: When you invoke the AI assistant, the App uses the Revit API to extract text-based element data (names, types, dimensions) from your currently open model. No raw model geometry or binary file data is accessed.
- View capture: The App uses the Revit API to capture a screenshot of your current viewport. This image is sent alongside your chat message to provide visual context to the AI.
- User input: Chat messages are captured when you type and submit them through the App's interface.
- HTTPS transmission: All data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections to our servers at
api.buildworld.ai.
3. How We Use Your Data
We use the data we collect for the following purposes:
- AI assistant responses: View screenshots, model element data, and your chat messages are sent to our server, which proxies them to Anthropic's Claude AI API to generate contextual responses about your Revit model.
- Authentication: Your API key is used to verify your identity and authorise access to the service.
- Billing: Message and token counts are tracked to calculate usage for billing purposes.
- Service improvement: Aggregated, anonymised usage metrics may be used to improve the App's performance and features.
We do not use your data to train AI models. Your project data and conversations are not used as training data for any machine learning system operated by BuildWorld.
4. Third-Party Data Sharing
We share data with the following third parties, strictly as required to provide the service:
| Third Party | Data Shared | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Anthropic (Claude AI) | View screenshots, extracted model element data, chat messages | AI assistant inference — generating responses to your queries. Subject to Anthropic's Privacy Policy. |
We do not sell, rent, or trade your data to any third party. Data is only shared with Anthropic as strictly necessary to provide the AI assistant functionality. Anthropic does not use data submitted via their API to train their models.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
- Chat messages and screenshots: Transmitted in real time for AI processing. Chat logs may be retained on our servers for up to 90 days for debugging and service continuity, after which they are automatically deleted.
- Model element data: Not persisted beyond the duration of the AI request. Element data is processed in memory and discarded after the response is generated.
- Usage metrics: Retained for the duration of your account for billing records, and for up to 12 months after account closure for financial reporting obligations.
- API keys: Stored securely on our servers. Revoked keys are deleted within 30 days.
Data shared with Anthropic is subject to Anthropic's data retention policies. Under Anthropic's API terms, data submitted via their API is retained for up to 30 days for trust and safety purposes, and is not used for model training.
6. Your Rights — Consent, Revocation, and Deletion
You have the following rights regarding your data:
- Revoke consent: You may stop using the App at any time by uninstalling the BuildWorld Copilot add-in from Revit. No further data will be collected once the App is removed.
- Request data deletion: You may request deletion of all data associated with your account by emailing support@buildworld.ai. We will process your request within 30 days.
- Access your data: You may request a copy of the data we hold about you by emailing support@buildworld.ai.
- Revoke API key: You may revoke your API key at any time through your BuildWorld account settings, immediately stopping all data transmission from the App.
7. Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your data:
- All data is transmitted over HTTPS (TLS 1.2+) encryption
- API keys are stored using industry-standard encryption at rest
- Access to user data is restricted to authorised personnel on a need-to-know basis
- Our servers are hosted on Google Cloud Platform infrastructure with SOC 2 and ISO 27001 compliance
8. Children's Privacy
BuildWorld Copilot is a professional tool designed for use by architects, engineers, and construction professionals. The App is not directed at children under the age of 16, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
